a time traveller moves one chair
hi! im maria, sanctuary is my rome, working on it since 2014, the current release (2026) is the third implementation, first two failed because i didn't know anything about programming patterns and architecture so everything became an entagled mess. three times the charm!
i started working on the current functional version summer 2021 when i first spent half a year planning a custom event bus architecture (called rzeka) to my own needs and i am really happy with how it worked out, smooth communication between completely separate components that i could calmly semi-forget about their ins and outs while spending years working on other parts.
i switched to linux only in October 2025 and i am never coming back to Windows or Mac, but now i consider that a privilege, i don't really believe even supposedly user-friendly os'es like Ubuntu are really a thing for daily life of people having nothing to do with tech and having already too much on their heads – things will break on linux at times, you need to dig that.
what pushed me to it finally were two things, how alienated i felt from my computer on a closed sysem that Windows is and my computer is the beloved tool of my craft and i heard it whispering that it is suffocating. the second thing was the unity drama of the recent years and the absolutely unacceptable for me necessity to log in to their services just to open my own spell/work that sanctuary is. i pity poor Adobe users who kindof have no choice in that.
but i do and so i began the fourth implementation of sanctuary, this time it will be ported to godot and made fully open source forever, the public repository is here. this will take time but with help of llms (which are great exactly for the task of porting code) first usable version should be available in 2027 (would be faster without 9-5 but such are the times we are living in).
stay safe!
with love,
maria
